Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency and measurable impacts in the governance of the state.
Eno stated this in Uyo on Thursday at a public presentation of the socio-economic impact of his administration after two years in office.
Speaking at the event with the theme:
“Measuring Progress, Deepening Impact” Eno said that no fewer than 205 compassionate homes had been built for indigent families in the state.
“Our target is to reach 500 homes in the next two years. We intervene where we see the need, our mission is to uplift the most vulnerable,” he said.
The governor said that the state government had paid N78 billion out of the N90 billion arrears of gratuity owed pensioners in the state.
“Our government has not borrowed money to finance our projects in the last two years. Significant investments have been made in public infrastructure such as roads, healthcare, and aviation,” he said.
He said that the state government had established an independent bureau of statistics to strengthen the integrity of data collection and policy implementation.
Eno further stated that his administration was open to suggestions and seminal inputs from Akwa Ibom people, saying,” our interest is to serve our people in the best way possible,” he said.
Speaking at the event, a Professor of Economics, Akpan Ekpo, urged the state government to establish a reserve fund in order to withstand any sudden shock.
Ekpo said that transparency and accountability remain the key to good governance. NAN
