No fewer than 400,000 persons are to benefit from the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda’s 14-day free medical outreach in Plateau.
Yilwatda, in his remarks at the ongoing outreach at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) on Wednesday in Jos, said the gesture was aimed at helping those who had health needs but lacked the means to take care of themselves.
The chairman stated that arrangements were made to handle at least 40,000 different cases.
He said that preparations were made for consultations, treatment, surgeries and the provision of medications.
According to him, the initiative was also to reach underserved communities and offer relief to vulnerable persons who couldn’t afford healthcare services in line with President Bola Tinubu’s reform mandate in the healthcare sector.
Yilwatda described the outreach as a demonstration of compassion, social responsibility and giving back to the society.
The chairman said that the exercise was being held simultaneously across three venues in Plateau North.
He listed the venues to include Vom Christian Hospital, Sunnah Hospital, Angwan Rogo, and Jos University Teaching Hospital.
Earlier, Dr Pokop Bupwatda, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Jos University Teaching Hospital, commended Yilwatda for his gesture, describing it as timely and impactful.
Bupwatda stated that the team of doctors for the outreach were from Sharing Hope Medical Mission from the United States of America (USA).
The CMD said that the team of doctors would also train 1,500 resident doctors and medical students on advanced lifesaving skills.
He further said that the high-quality equipment and instruments brought in by the team for surgeries would also be shared among the three hospitals carrying out the outreach, as the APC national chairman has asked the team to give the respective hospitals the equipment.
He called on well-spirited individuals to emulate Yilwatda by giving succour to the indigent persons.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sharing Hope Medical Mission was brought in by the APC National Chairman for the free medical outreach.
