GOLDEN MAN OF THE YEAR 2023 – PROF ALEWO JOHNSON-AKUBO, VC SALEM UNIVERSITY LOKOJA

Prof. Alewo Johnson Akubo, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Salem University Lokoja, is today, April 13 the GOLDEN MAN OF THE YEAR 2023 having clocked 50 years of age Thursday, April 13, in this God given part of the World, Nigeria.

Akubo was born on the April 13, 1973, at Anyigba in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria, to the family of Mr and Mrs. Stephen Abu/Agnes Akubo.

He attended the Roman Catholic Mission (RCM) Primary School, Anyigba (1978-1983), from where he proceeded to Community Secondary Commercial College, Anyigba (1984-1987), CMML Secondary school and Boys Secondary School, Ochaja (1987-1988).

The VC had at different times obtained two B.Sc. (Hons) degrees in Accounting (1998) and Sociology (2011) from the prestigious University of Portharcourt, Rivers State. He holds Masters (2012) and Ph.D. (2017) degrees in Sociology of Development, also from the University of Portharcourt.

Prof. Akubo in a clear demonstration of his insatiable appetite for quality education, had also proceeded to obtain two Masters degrees in Business Administration; MSc (2019) and MBA (2018) from Salem University Lokoja.

He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma (2010) from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

Prof. Akubo had completed with certification, John Maxwell’s Training on the Chief Executive Programme based on John Maxwell’s Leadership Development Resources and Curriculum.

At Salem University Lokoja, Akubo served as the Pioneer Coordinator, Mass Communication Programme, Deputy Dean, College of Management and Social Sciences and Deputy Director, Academic Planning between August, 2016 and July 2017.

Prof. Akubo was appointed Dean, College of Management and Social Sciences (2017-2020). He rose to become the Deputy Vice Chancellor in January 2020, a position he held until January, 2021 when he was appointed Acting Vice Chancellor.

A member of Council and Head of Management, he was confirmed as the 4th substantive Vice Chancellor in February, 2022.

Prof. Akubo is a recipient of many national awards, amongst which are; The Nigerians of Integrity and Excellence Award by The Guardian Newspapers (August, 2021) and the Award of EXCELLENCE by the National Education Summit and Awards (June, 2021).

HE was appointed a member of the ADVISORY BOARD of the National Education Summit and Award in September, 2021.

A prolific writer, he has had several academic publications in many Local and International Journals.

Prof. Akubo, a Pastor, is married to Sophia Johnson Akubo, also a Pastor. They are blessed with five wonderful children – Ojima Jesse, Joshua Ojonimi, Dominion Iye, Enyo-Ojo Hallel and Chubiyojo Royalty. (e-meralnews)
