The governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Jos at the high court complex on Friday dismissed the APC’s petition seeking the nullification of the election of Gov. Caleb Mutfwang as the governor of plateau.
Delivering its judgement over the petition in Jos, the tribunal reaffirms The Return of Mutfwang As Governor of Plateau State.
It declared Mutfwang as the duly elected governor of plateau state.
The tribunal said that the Petitioners ground one, which says the PDP in plateau state has no structure to be able to sponsor a candidate failed since the Petitioners are not member of the PDP and have no locus standi to challenge the normination or sponsorship of a candidate as the law is clear on that and they are interlopers.
The tribunal further held that the issues of normination and sponsorship of a candidate has been settled by the electoral act 2022 since it says one must have a minimum qualification of secondary school and must be a member of a political party.
According to it, the reason for that is to avoid independent candidate ones a person has meet all this requirements the person is qualify and as such the ground 1 of the petition is purely a pre election matter and the tribunal don’t have jurisdiction to entertain the matter as and the ground one is hereby dismissed.
The witnesses brought in support of the ground one are all stroke out and deem as interlopers as they are not members of PDP and did not participate in any of the primaries and as such cannot give any evidence on the matter and the witness statement on oath are not valid and are also stroke out, the petition in entirely has collapse.
