A total of 2,511 graduands of Federal University Lokoja (FUL) will on Saturday be conferred with various degrees at its 6th and 7th combined convocation ceremony.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, announced this during a pre-convocation news conference in Lokoja on Monday.
Akinwumi said: “In this year’s combined Convocation ceremony, 2,511 graduands will be conferred with First degrees, 99 Master degrees and 128 Postgraduate Diploma.
“The classification of degrees to be awarded in the 6th set is as follows:
First Class Honours – 28, Second Class Honours Upper Division – 319, Second Class Honours Lower Division – 736, Third Class Honours – 197 and Pass degree – 3; totaling 1,273.
“For the 7th Set: First Class Honours – 33, Second Class Honours Upper Division – 286, Second Class Honours Lower Division – 668, Third Class Honours – 250 and Pass degree – 1 Totaling = 1, 238 with a Grand Total = 2,511,” he said.
The vice chancellor also revealed that on that day of the convocation, Honorary Degrees would be conferred on eminent personalities that have contributed to the development of the nation.
While congratulating the graduands, on the academic feat, he rejoiced with them and their families for the journey so far and wished the best go out as ambassadors of the institution.
He admonished them to be good ambassadors of FUL by “upholding the morals and values of this noble university”.
According to him, several programmes have been lined up for the weeklong ceremony to include a Wednesday dinner and Thursday pre-convocation Lecture as well as prayers in Mosques and Churches on Friday and Sunday.
The vice chancellor further disdclosed that all the programmes of the university were domiciled on the permanent site in Felele with all academic activities taking place there.
He said that during the convocation ceremony the university would launch an endowment fund through which it would solicit for the support and contributions of well meaning Nigerians toward enhancing infrastructure development.
He listed some of the projects for endowment to include 500-bed space capacity for students hostel, 500-seater capacity lecture theatre and a research Laboratory Building with Equipment.
Others are 400-bed space Hostel for Medical students, Anatomy Laboratory for medical students, Mass Communication Building, Faculty of Law Library, 500-capacity multi-purpose Hall/Assembly and 500-capacity auditorium.
“FUL today has added to its academic programmes, Medicine, Nursing and Engineering, while Agriculture, Law, Pharmacy, Psychology and Medical Laboratory Science programmes are on the pipeline, ” Akinwumi further disclosed. NAN
