The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has felicitated with its Permanent Secretary, Dr Ernest Umakhihe, on Doctoral Degree in Science (Honoris Causa) bestowed on him by the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Kogi.
A statement in Lokoja on Monday by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ikemefuna Ezeaja, said that Umakhihe, who was formally decorated with the award on Saturday, was worthy of the award, given his pedigree.
The PRO said that while decorating the permanent secretary with the prestigious award, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university, Prof. Olayinka Akinwumi, said that Umakhihe was honoured for his numerous contributions to the nation’s agricultural sector.
“The vice chancellor particularly commended Umakhihe for facilitating the establishment of an Agribusiness Incubation Centre (AIC) in the university.
Umakhihe was also honoured for facilitating the construction of an access road from the AIC to the university farm.
“The vice chancellor urged other well placed Nigerians to emulate the life of service of Umakhihe by using their positions to contribute to the development of the country.
“Akinwumi also commended Umakhihe for his dedication and commitment to national service and for providing inspiring leadership to all those around him, ” he said.
According to him, Dr Umakhihe is full of appreciation to the vice chancellor, management and the entire staff of the university for founding him worthy of the honour.
He said that the permanent secretary dedicated the award to the staff of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, families and friends, who had been part of his success in life. NAN
