The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Plateau branch, says the association would be conducting free eye checks for the men and officers of the Nigerian Police Force in the state.
The Chairman of NMA in the state, Dr Willam Audu , said this on Monday, when he briefed the press on the association’s event to celebrate the 2023 Physicians week, with the theme entitled “This is our chance : to get it right in the health sector.
Audu, said the free eye check was the association’s way of giving back to the society.
The chairman, who read the speech of the NMA president’s Dr. Uche Ojinmah, called on the federal government to commence the payment of the reviewed CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures and the accoutrement allowance for medical doctors and dentists.
The NMA, also called on the frowned at the plan by the federal government to stop the funding of the Medical and Dental Council (MDCN) whose task is to regulate the medical and dents practice , and called for its continuous funding by the federal government.
The Association, further decried the routine incapacitation of the MDCN and called for an immediate reconstitution of the council or grant an extension of the previous council.
” The act setting up the MDCN states that the Council shall be in perpetuity.
“The practice whereby the government allows the council to elapse without replacement especially for long durations compromises its ability to regulate medical practice properly as the Investigative Panel and Medical Dental Practitioners which are organs of the council cannot be constituted, thereby no case of medical negligence or malpractice can be investigated or tried”,. He said.
He implored doctors to take care of their own health in other to deliver care of highest standard to their patients.
