The Kogi Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on Wednesday expressed his condolences on behalf of the people and Government of Kogi, over the unfortunate bomb mishap that killed citizens at a Kaduna State village.
The governor, in a statement in Lokoja by his media aide, Onogwu Muhammed, described the incident as tragic and unfortunate.
A military drone engaged in targeting terrorists and bandits, had on Sunday night, mistakenly dropped a bomb on civilians celebrating the Maulud, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Tudun Biri village, Igabi Local Government Area, killing scores of them.
Bello, who expressed concern over the unfortunate incident, had during the State Executive Council Meeting at the EXCO Hall of the Governor’s Office in Lokoja, conveyed his condolences after observing a minute silence in honour of the victims.
“I, the Governor, and the people of Kogi stand in solidarity with the Governor of Kaduna State, Sen. Uba Sani, and the people and Government of Kaduna State, during this challenging time.
“We hereby also send our condolences to the families of the victims of the unfortunate incident.
“It’s our hope that a thorough investigation into the incident will be carried out to ascertain what went wrong to have caused such a tactical mistake.
“We also urge the Nigerian Armed Forces to remain resolute in their mission to eradicate terrorists, bandits, and criminals in the region.
“This is because of the need for continued efforts to protect Nigeria from all forms of insecurity, ” he said. NAN
