The Vice Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja, (FUL) Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, on Saturday said intergroup relations and security were vital to Nigeria’s education transformation.
The VC made the remark at his book launch, which garnered N5 million at the diamond jubilee at the university’s Adankolo Campus, Lokoja.
Akinwumi, who clocked 60 years on Saturday, lamented the insecurity that pervaded the society, needing urgent solution.
He said solutions would prevent crippling the nation’s educational growth.
The book is titled: “Intergroup Relations, Strategic and Security Studies: The Future of Higher Education in Africa.”
He said it would help to point to the dangers of insecurity across the African continent affecting students and institutions.
“The launch of this book, coinciding with my diamond jubilee, is deliberate and aimed at giving back to the society what it has offered me as a patriot.
“It’s my belief that it shall help to shape the society in which we live and bring about the desired educational growth, not only in Nigeria but across the entire African continent, ” he said.
Earlier, Prof Mohammed Audu, FUL Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, described Akinwumi as very humble and hardworking administrator.
Audu said that the VC had done so much as a seasoned administrator and impacted the society, making the celebration worthwhile and envious.
According to him, the celebrator had, through unprecedented leadership qualities, transformed the FUL, evident by glaring projects that almost surpassed those of TETfund.
The Chairman of the occasion and Rector, Kogi Polytechnic, Lokoja, Dr Salihu Oyibo, described Akinwumi as a gentle, humble and silent achiever worthy of emulation by all and sundry.
The reviewer of the VC’s book, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, Provost, Centre For Strategic Research and Studies, National Defence College, Abuja, described the book as a must read, considering its rich contents.
Ahmed, who was represented by Kabiru Kaka, a lecturer, lauded the intellectual capacity of Akinwumi for putting up a 600-page book, bothering on how best to improve the standard of education across Africa.
