Plateau Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Bashir Datti, on Friday, trained with Plateau United senior male team and urged the team to improve its performance.
Datti, who was part of the training from the beginning to the end, told newsmen that the gesture was to motivate the players to improve their performance.
The commissioner said that Plateau United’s performance at the beginning of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) was fantastic, but their form dropped drastically as the season draws to a close.
He said that something urgent needed to be done to ensure that the team ends the season on a high.
“If you look at the record of Plateau United since the beginning of the NPFL, we’ve been doing great.
“But towards the end of the season, the results show we’re going down a little bit.
“That’s why I decided to come and train with them and encourage them so that they would do better.
“I am here to bring good news from the government and to also urge them to do more,” he stated.
Datti assured the team that the state government was ready to provide all that the team needed to make the state proud.
According to him, Governor Caleb Mutfwang was doing his best to improve the fortunes of the club.
Plateau United Chief Coach, Mbwas Mangut, said that the team spirit was lifted with presence of the governor.
“Lately, the team is not really doing too well the way we started.
“One of the reasons why the commissioner is here is to ask questions and encourage the team to push up.
“We will do our best to ensure that we end the season as strong as we started,” he said. NAN
