Truck Involved In Okene Auto-Crash Not Our Own – Dangote Cement

Dangote Cement Plc on Monday disowned a truck laden with cement that collided with a bus on Okene-Lokoja bypass in Kogi, leading to the death of 19  persons.

 

Mr Tony Chiejina, Dangote Group’s Chief Branding & Communications Officer, made the clarification in a statement issued in Lokoja.

 

The said truck had on Sunday morning had head on collision with a Toyota Hiace Bus just before Okene town, killing I9 persons including the drivers and injuring a person, who luckily survived it.

 

” The Toyota Hiace Bus was said to be coming from Kano heading down South, while the Truck coming from Port Harcourt was heading to Obajana in Lokoja, Kogi State.

 

But Chiejina urged the public to disregard the erroneous news, that its truck was responsible for the fatal accident.

 

He, however, expressed dangote group’s sadness over the incident and condoled with the families of the victims.

 

The communication officer explained:  “From various background checks from our Transport and Logistics Unit, the truck in question belonged to a third party, who was using it for his cement business.

 

“It does not belong to Dangote Cement.”

 

“Dangote Cement has put several measures in place to curb the menace of road accidents. Some of these measures, include frequent and regular training for drivers, constant checks, and maintenance of trucks among others.

 

“Contrary to reports alluding, the ownership of the truck to Dangote Cement, we state categorically that the truck laden with cement which was involved in the said crash does not belong to us.” (ephemeralnews.ng)
