The Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA), has called for private sector collaboration to combat the menace of open defecation across the state.
The Director General (D-G) of PEPSA, Mr Samuel Dapiya, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Sunday in Jos.
Dapiya, said it was imperative for the private sector and well spirited individuals to construct standard toilets in public places, as part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
He said this would help curb the prevalence of open defecation in the state, while also complementing government’s efforts.
He noted that the gesture would also promote the use of toilets and good hygiene practices in the state.
The DG further called for the establishment of more public toilets by private business investors in strategic places in the state.
According to him, it is a good business venture because it will generate revenue for both the investor and the state government.
“I enjoin public toilets operators to collaborate with the government to curb the menace of open defecation by establishing toilets in accessible locations and operating according to the required standard,’’ he said.
He said in its efforts towards reducing the spate of open defecation, the current administration was constructing public toilets at the city centre, Terminus, where the street traders were relocated to.
Dapiya, commended the Gov. Caleb Mutfwang-led administration for prioritising the health of its citizens through a sanitised environment. NAN
