Mr Samuel Dapiya, the Director General (D-G) of the Plateau State Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA), says the agency has generated N1 million revenue in the last three months.
Dapiya, who assumed duty in February, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Sunday in Jos.
The D-G said PEPSA, which was partly a revenue generating agency, but prior to the current administration led by of Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, had generated no revenue.
He however, said the agency in three months had generated more than N1 million through its various revenue generating channels such as the issuance of permits to bakeries and sachet water companies.
He further listed others as fines generated from monthly sanitation defaulters, loading and offloading fees, amongst others.
Dapiya said the agency, while working towards ensuring the state was in good sanitary condition by having its environment clean, green and safe, was also reactivating all its revenue generating channels.
He therefore, said PEPSA was embracing new innovations to upscale its mandate and revenue, to transform the agency.
He said PEPSA was also working towards sorting and recycling of waste, adding that effective and proactive waste evacuation should not be the sole responsibility of government, and so was seeking collaboration with private waste evacuators.
The D-G commended the citizens for their increased participation in the clearing and evacuation of waste.
Dapiya however, called for attitudinal change by the people, and their mindset towards waste management.
He commended the governor for restructuring the agency which was previously headed by a General Manager, adding that it showed he was poised to moving the agency to greater heights. NAN
