Progressive Minds Club Jos has advised individuals to form socio-economic clubs or groups to assist themselves and vulnerable persons to cushion the biting economic hardship.

The club’s President, Mr Owolabi Folaranmi, gave the advice  in his acceptance speech shortly after assumption of the leadership of the club.

Folaranmi said that club members could pull their resources and assist themselves to overcome the challenges they could not address as individuals.

The president stated that the Progressive Minds Club, which was established in 2008 by a group of friends, has been assisting its members and vulnerable members of the public in times of need.

“The economy is biting, but we pray things will get better. However, we need to devise survival strategies to overcome this problem.

“One of the strategies is to unite in the form of clubs or associations to assist the weak ones among us by pulling resources together.

“I recall that during COVID-19, we assisted many vulnerable communities with safety kits and other necessities of life.

“As a club, we’ve resolved to extend our hands of fellowship to those who cannot help themselves in this trying moment, and we want other individuals, especially well-off people, to learn from us,” he stated.

He called on the Plateau government to recognize and work with the club for the betterment of the state.

The immediate past president of the club, Mr Kolawole Adeyemi, said in his remarks that the organisation, which is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, is guided by a constitution.

Adeyemi said that the constitution determines how each member is assisted.

“If members attend events like birthdays, marriages, etc., the club steps in to ensure that the weight is not too much on the member.

“To mitigate the economic crunch, depending on what is in the purse, we do buy items and distribute them among members,” he said. NAN
