Mrs Olivia Dazyam, Acting Chairperson, Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission, has commiserated with the government and parents over the lives lost in the Saint Academy School building collapse on Friday.
Dazyem, also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Gender, sympathised with students, management and staff of the school on Monday.
No fewer than 22 lives were lost and injuries were sustained by several teachers and students of the school located in Busa Buji, Jos North Local Government Area of the state when the school building caved in while class was on.
Dazyem described the tragic collapse of the Saint Academy school building as an heartbreaking incident that claimed the lives of innocent students, adding that it has plunged the state into profound mourning.
āThe commission extends its condolences to the families who have lost their beloved children and wards in this unfortunate event.
āThe hope is that they may find solace in the comfort that comes only from God during this incredibly difficult time,āā Dazyem said.
The chairperson said prayers are being offered for all those affected by the tragedy, including those who sustained injuries, for their swift and complete healing.
She added that the entire communityās thoughts are with them, seeking Godās perfect intervention for their recovery.
She said that the date of July 12 would be remembered as one of the darkest days in the history of Plateau State.
āIt marks a day when the lives of future leaders, not just of the state but of the entire country, were tragically cut short,āā she said.
Dazyem said the incident highlights the urgent need for proper adherence to building regulations and maintenance practices.
āThis is particularly in areas like Jos and Bukuru metropolis where construction often proceeds without regard for designated plans.
āIt serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of neglecting these crucial safety measures, Dazyem said.
She commended the efforts of the state governor for his prompt response in closing down the school and initiating an investigation into the causes of the collapse.
āThis decisive action is essential in preventing such tragedies in the future and ensuring the safety of all students,āā she said.
Dazyem said that the state mourned the loss of the precious children and sought comfort through the special grace of Almighty God.Ā NAN
