The newly inaugurated Benue Public Service Institute is building the capacities of 245 Benue government house staff on efficiency to implement Governor Hyacinth Alia’s vision.
Prof. Terkura Tarnande, the Director-General of the institute, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Makurdi that the training was for all cadres of staff.
Tarnande said that the objective of the training, which commenced on Wednesday, was to fundamentally transform the capacity of the workers in line with Governor Hyacinth Alia’s vision.
The director-general stated that by the end of the training, they expect a noticeable change in the workers performance, beginning from the permanent secretaries to the cleaners.
“It is a challenging task, but we aim for the governor to witness a significant improvement in how his staff carry out their responsibilities.
“Upon assumption of office, the governor identified a gap in the civil servants’ ability to effectively implement the programmes outlined in his seven-point strategy plan.
“Instead of going out to source for necessary training, he opted to create an institute in the state to address the needs.
“This decision positions the governor as a historic figure, being the first to establish such an institute in North Central Nigeria.
“The core mandate of the institute that was inaugurated on September 19 was to equip civil servants with the skills needed to efficiently execute the government’s developmental agenda,” he said.
According to him, the institute assembled a team of highly competent resource persons to lead the training, which would take place at Government House. NAN
