Mr Bethrand Onuoha, Kogi Commissioner of Police, on Saturday said President Bola Tinubu needs more time to fix the economy of Nigeria.
The commissioner made the remark during a meeting with the Executive of “TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT” Kogi State Chapter, at the Command Headquarters, Lokoja.
The meeting was in view of the Oct. 1 planned Nationwide Protest by the movement.
The engagement meeting was in response to the movement’s letter dated Sept. 27 to the commissioner seeking for permission to stage the protest in the state on Oct 1.
Onuoha advised the Group to reconsider their planned protest and give the president and his government more time to fix the economy of the ation.
The CP, who stated that the group has the right for peaceful protest in accordance with extant Laws, but advised them to avoid playing into the hands of disgruntled elements and or hoodlums, who may highjack the process and unleash mayhem on innocent citizens and property.
“This is because any destruction of lives and properties as well as damage of critical infrastructure which will in turn have serious adverse/negative impact on the nation’s economy won’t be tolerated, ” he warned.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Group, Mose Opeyemi, assured the CP that the protest would be peaceful since they are enlightened and law-abiding Kogi youths.
Opayemi said: “All the same, we gladly accepted your advise as a father and we hereby promise to remain committed to the peace, progress and development of the State.
.
“The Executive and Members of this Group will meet to deliberate on all the issues you raised by you, our abled CP, and come up with a reasonable resolution regarding our participation in the Oct 1 planned protest.”
The coordinator, however, commended the CP for the constructive engagement, which he said has gone along way to enlighten them on their responsibilities as youths.
