A devastating boat accident occurred on November 29, 2024, in Kupa Local Government Area, Kogi State, leaving multiple passengers unaccounted for.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered for an immediate investigation into the devastating boat accident that occurred on Nov. 29 in Kupa Local Government Area, Kogi.
the IG, in a statement issued on Saturday by Force image maker, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said that the unfortunate incident reportedly left multiple passengers unaccounted for.
The boat, carrying over 160 passengers, capsized along the Dambo-Ebuchi waterways of the River Niger, resulting in the rescue of 24 passengers, while others remain missing.
“The IGP has directed the Force Marine Officer to lead a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the mishap, aiming to identify contributing factors and develop strategies to prevent similar incidents,” ne said.

The Nigeria Police Force has activated resources and operational modalities to intensify search and rescue efforts, ensuring the swift rescue of missing passengers.
The IGP has also called on waterway operators, boat owners, and stakeholders to collaborate with the Force Marine Department in enforcing critical safety measures.
