The former Nigerian President, Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, retired, has urged Christians to prioritize Love and unity of purpose for effective growth and development of the Country.
Obasanjo gave the charge on Sunday during a thanksgiving service at the Church of Christ In Nation (COCIN) Headquarters, Jos, organized by the 16 Plateau PDP House Assembly members to mark one year after their sacked by the Appeal Court, held
The former president also encouraged the church and the members to always give thanks to God in all situations, because at the end God always reward our gratitude toward Him.
Recounting his prison experience, Obasanjo said it was like hell and so thought his life was over, but God showed His faithfulness and did a miracle
“I have to tell you that God never commits a mistake. He elevated me from a prisoner to president. That’s how God works.
“Therefore, I charge and encourage the 16 house of assembly members who lost their seats to remain resolute because God has a big plan for them.
“What happened to them is just a temporary set back. They should derived strength from God and from what happened to him and to move forward because God doesn’t make mistakes, ” he said.
Obasanjo, however, charged the sacked legislators to remain focused, resolute, and determined in future agitations, noting that “adversity is very difficult but is meant to strengthen you….”
He lauded Gov. Caleb Mutfwang’s efforts toward restoring total peace and bringing the citizens together in spite of their diversity.
According to him, love brings unity, and without love, there can’t be peace and unity.
Obasanjo stated that in any human endeavour, without unity, no progress could be achieved, adding, “peace, security, love, justice, and equity is fundamental for sustainable development to thrive.”
OBJ prayed God to continue to give Gov. Mutfwang the grace and wisdom to lead the state to greater heights.
He commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for providing leadership on the pillar of equity and fairness of God.
It could be recalled that the elections of the 16 assembly lawmakers alongside Five House of Representatives members and two Senators from Plateau under the platform of PDP were nullified by an Appellate Court in Abuja between October and November, 2023.
That decision of the Appellate Court to many legal practitioners, both national and international, described it as “miscarriagement of justice.”
Governor Caleb Mutfwang acknowledged that true believers are known in times of adversity. He said if you’re not strong in Christ when the wing of adversity blows, it will fling you.
Speaking on behalf of 16 former lawmakers, former speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mathew Sule as well as Hon. Ishaku Maren, a member representing Bokkos constituency, confirmed they were in the Church to fulfil the scriptural obligation, which says in whatever situation you found yourself, give thanks to God.
“Ever since our removal from office sometimes last year between October and November 2023, by the Appeal Court, the Lord has remained faithful to us.
“We consider what has happened to us as a divine arrangement of God. And as you can see, all of us standing in our feet is a divine grace of God.
“Even though one of us was kidnapped but release unharmed. We were all alive and sound, the Lord has been faithful, and we know the future is bright…”
They appreciate the Church for praying for government and also Governor Mutfwang for accommodating them.
Remember immediately after the Appeal Court sacking, Governor Mutfwang appointed them as liaison officers of their various constituencies.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the service , Rt.Hon. Daylop Fom-Gwattson, said that the thanksgiving was in conformity wirh the scripture which says in all situations we should give thanks to the Lord.
