Mr Nanbol Daniel (LP/Langtang North Central Constituency), member, Plateau State House of Assembly, has sponsored a bill for the government to fund and support faith-based health institutions.
Daniel presented the bill during the assembly’s plenary session on Wednesday in Jos.
The legislator stated that the faith-based health institutions have been providing critical healthcare services and have been complementing the efforts of the state government.
He said that it was imperative to provide support to the institutions to enhance their capacity in the delivery of quality healthcare services.
According to him, the objectives of the bill were to improve access to healthcare services and promote partnership between the state government and faith-based health institutions.
“This bill seeks to make the state government provide support to approved faith-based health institutions through financial grants and technical assistance to enhance the capacity of the institutions,” he said.
He explained that the institutions would only be eligible for support if registered with the relevant authorities.
He added that only those with a proven track record of quality healthcare services delivery and have met the standards set by the state ministry of health.
Daniel further said that the state ministry of health would be responsible for approving faith-based health institutions for support if this bill was passed into law.
He solicited his colleagues support for the bill to go through to second reading.
