The Police in Akwa Ibom State on Thursday arrested three suspects allegedly with a firearm during a stop and search at Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the State.
A statement signed by DSP Timfon John, the Command’s Spokesman, disclosed that the suspects and the firearm are in custody of the police.
John gave the names of the suspects to include Nsisong Paul-Okon, 27, native of Itak Village, Francis Forbes, 62, and Prince Forbes, 27, both of Ikot Akpa Edok Ndiya Village in Ikono LGA.
According to him, the suspects vehicle, a Mercedes Benz C300, with customized plate number “FORBES JR,” was flagged down for routine checks at the Control Post in Ikot Ekpene.
“The operatives of the Command intercepted a Mercedes Benz C300 with customized plate number FORBES JR, leading to the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm and two live cartridges.
“The operation, which took place at the Control Post in Ikot Ekpene, was part of the Command’s intensified stop-and-search strategy aimed at curbing crime and enhancing public safety, ” he said.
He explained that the feat was part of the Command’s efforts to rid Akwa Ibom state of illegal firearms and criminal elements.

John quoted the State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed-Azare to have ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.
He reaffirmed the Command’s zero tolerance for unlawful possession of firearms, stressing that it remains resolute in ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state. (ephemeralnews.com.ng)
