Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom says his administration is ready to partner stakeholders towards developing the tourism potential of the state.
Eno made the statement when a delegation from MTN Nigeria visited him in Uyo.
The visit was to intimate the governor of preparations to host the MTN Seasonal Sports Competition tagged: MTN CHAMPS, holding between April 29 and May 3 in Uyo.
“As a government, we are willing to partner MTN Nigeria to develop the tourism sector of the state. As we look beyond oil, we must invest in tourism.
“I commend you for choosing Akwa Ibom for your sporting event. It is our resolve to make Akwa Ibom the tourism hub of the Niger Delta. I warmly welcome you,” he said.
The governor urged MTN to remain steadfast in implementing its corporate social responsibility initiatives in the state.
Earlier, Olusina Adegoke, the Chief Sales and Distribution Officer, MTN Nigeria, said that the event was part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility programmes to the state.
Adegoke said that apart from sports, the company also indulged in education, health and other citizen empowerment programmes. NAN
