The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, says to tackle the country’s raging insecurity, the Nigerian Navy (NN), has trained more personnel to enhance its operations.
Ogalla stated this on Friday in Makurdi at the graduation ceremony of 45 personnel trained in various courses at the Nigerian Navy Provost and Regulating School, Makurdi.
The CNS, who was represented by NN Provost Marshal, Commodore Nsikan Friday, said that the training would help naval operations, especially in the maintenance of security in the country.
Ogalla urged the graduands to remain adaptable, proactive, and forward-thinking in inperforming their responsibilities.
“As personnel in the Provost and Regulating Department of the Navy, you are entrusted with some of the most important roles in maintaining the discipline, order, and welfare of personnel.
“The skills and knowledge you have acquired in this institution have equipped you not only with the technical proficiency required for your duties but also with the moral and ethical framework that is essential to serving as role models and leaders in the Navy.
“As provost and regulating personnel, you will be called upon to play critical roles in enforcing naval law, promoting discipline, and upholding the traditions that make the Nigerian Navy a professional, effective and respected service.
“Whether serving in regulating duties, naval police functions, or ensuring the effective application of naval laws and procedures, you will be entrusted as the custodians of the Navy’s integrity.
“The success of the Nigerian Navy is largely built on the foundation of discipline and order as well as principles that each of you is now deeply familiar with.
“As such, you must remember that your responsibilities extend far beyond mere enforcement,” he stated.
The CNS appreciated the commandant, instructors, and staff of the school for their unwavering dedication and hard work in shaping the future leaders.
According to him, their commitment to excellence in training is instrumental to ensuring that they continue to build a Navy that is not only capable in operations, but also founded on the principles of discipline, integrity, and professionalism.
He urged them to do more so as to keep producing excellent graduates in the future.
Capt. Henry Ejeh, Commandant, Nigerian Navy Provost and Regulating School Makurdi, said that the graduands were trained in four courses: Master at Arms Refresher, Master at Arms Qualifying, Petty Officer Regulator Qualifying and Leading Regulator Qualifying Courses.
“While the courses lasted, efforts were made to instil in the students the best practices in law enforcement within the military and outside.
“Various methodologies, including classroom lectures, practical demonstrations, presentations, training attachments and exercises, amongst others, were used to train the students.
“Some of the subjects taught included Criminology, Provost and Crime, Security and Intelligence, Case File Compilation and Internal Security.
“Others include General Investigation, Maritime Cyber Security, Physical Security Management, Interview and Interrogation, Evidence Collection, Criminal Procedure/Constitutional Law and Forensic Investigation,” he said.
Gov. Hyacinth Alia of Benue, who was the special guest of Honour at the graduation, appreciated NN for its contribution to addressing the security challenges in the state.
Alia, who was represented by Prof. Tor Iorapuu, Vice Chancellor, Benue State University, acknowledged the partnership between the school and the university in training the personnel.
