The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Gov. Umo Eno to direct immediate rehabilitation of dilapidated structures at Community Secondary School, Ibiaku Ikpedip in Ibiono Ibom.
The resolution followed a motion before the house on Wednesday by Mr Moses Essien, the member representing Ibiono Ibom state constituency.
In the motion, titled Resolution to Refurbish Ibiono South Community Secondary School, brought pursuant to order 3 rule 1, Essien expressed displeasure over the dilapidated state of the school.
He said that students suffered untoward hardship due to the state of the facilities in the school.
“This is the only functional school in this area, it is now dilapidated and has outlived its usefulness, it can no longer accommodate the students population.
“The school has no fewer than 1,500 students as at the last count on March 1, 2025. The students learn under very difficult conditions,” he said.
Supporting the motion, Mr Uduak Ekpo-Ufot, representing Etinan Constituency, said that the current state of the school did not offer a conducive environment for learning.
The Speaker, Mr Udeme Otong, directed the Clerk, Mrs Nsikakabasi Orok to forward the house’s resolution to the governor for possible implementation through the relevant ministry and board. NAN
