Rotary International has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating polio in Nigeria and globally through continuous fundraising for sustainable immunisation programmes and advocacy.
The President of Rotary International, Stephanie Urchick, made this known on Friday in Jos during the Rotary District 9127 Joint District Conference, themed “Unlocking the Magic of Rotary Through Impactful Humanitarian Services.”
Urchick, represented by Dr Daniel Ajawara, emphasised that polio eradication remained Rotary’s top global priority.
She noted that in addition to polio efforts, Rotary had committed 2 million dollars to a “Programme of Scale” initiative aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality in Nigeria.
She highlighted that Rotary’s projects in Nigeria were tailored to the specific needs of local communities and were often funded through global grants, involving collaboration between local Rotarians and their international partners.
Earlier, District Governor Mike Nwanoshiri described the conference, the first of its kind in District 9127, as an opportunity to evaluate achievements and strategise for scaling up humanitarian efforts.
He added that key resource persons were selected to enlighten participants across various sectors.
