Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state to channel their intellectual and creative energies towards national development.

Eno stated this at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream 1 Corps at Nsit-Atai, Akwa Ibom on Friday.

Represented by Dr Ekerete Ekanem, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Eno urged the corps members to accept the responsibilities and challenges that go with nation building.

“As corps members, the oath of allegiance you took automatically makes you co-stakeholders in the nation building project.

“So to achieve the task ahead, we must work together as strategic stakeholders in the Nigerian project.

“Your contributions must transcend ethnic, religious, linguistic, and socio-cultural boundaries,” Eno said.

He further said that the country looked forward to the youth for fresh ideas, renewed hope and a brighter future.

Eno pledged the commitment of the Akwa Ibom government to always promote the welfare and security of corps members serving in the state.

The governor said that his administration would soon commence the upgrading of infrastructure in the NYSC orientation camp to make the place more comfortable.

In her remarks, the NYSC Coordinator in Akwa Ibom, Mrs Ngozi Akuagbaogu, urged the corps members to actively participate in all the orientation activities.

She stated that orientation activities were designed to equip corps members with the physical, mental and intellectual tools for nation building.

“You are expected to fully engage with all the activities, including the lectures, paramilitary drills, and leadership training,” she said.

Akuagbaogu further urged the youths to take advantage of the scheme’s SAED initiative to acquire skills that would not only make them self-reliant but to contribute towards national development.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that during the event, oaths of allegiance were administered on the corps members by the Akwa Ibom Chief Judge. NAN
