Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, has charged the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) corps members posted to Plateau to promote peace, progress and national integration.
Mutfwang said this on Friday at the official opening and swearing in ceremony of the 2026 batch “A” stream l corps members orientation.
The governor, who was represented by his commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Musa Ashoms, said the corps members were not just participants in the one-year service programme but were ambassadors of unity, symbols of national integration and catalysts for social and economic progress
He further said that NYSC scheme remained a vital tool for fostering national unity and development.
Mutfwang tasked the newly sworn in corps members to pay special attention to all the course content during the exercise and adhere to the by-laws of the scheme.
The governor called on them to inculcate the spirit of discipline, patriotism, self reliance and leadership skills which would equip them during and beyond the service year.
“Uphold the core values of discipline, patriotism and selfless service and perform your duties with diligence,” he said.
He urged them to position themselves as positive and dependable agents of transformation in the nation by shunning all forms of misinformation, divisive narratives and sentiments that would undermine the collective unity.
Mutfwang, reassured the corps members that his administration in collaboration with security agencies, were working tirelessly to sustain the peace and stability that had been restored in the state.
“Let me assure you that your safety and well-being are top priorities for my administration.
“We would continue to work closely with all relevant security agencies to safeguard peace and stability throughout the state,” the governor said.
He expressed optimism that the ongoing renovation at the NYSC’s permanent orientation camp would soon be completed.
“As a government, we stand fully committed to supporting the scheme and ensuring a conducive environment for its success.
“Earlier this month, Plateau State hosted the NYSC Annual Management Conference where I made a commitment to ensure the scheme’s early return to its permanent orientation camp in Mangu, this is a promise I intend to keep.” he said.
Earlier, Mr Jonathan Yavala, Plateau’s state coordinator for the scheme, urged the newly sworn corps members to participate fully in all camp activities particularly the skills acquisition programme as it would prepare them for the rigor of the service year ahead and beyond.
Yavala commended the Plateau government for its unflinching support towards the NYSC scheme and for also successfully hosting the 2026 NYSC annual management conference and Pre orientation exercise .
