Former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori, on Tuesday inaugurated the multi-billion-naira Kogi State Audit House Complex in Lokoja.
Ibori, while speaking at the inauguration,
commended Gov. Ahmed Ododo for what he described as impactful leadership within his first two years in office.
He noted that the project reflected the commitment of the administration to transparency, accountability and institutional development.
Ibori said the completion of the Audit House demonstrated Ododo’s resolve to strengthen governance structures critical to sustainable growth and development in the state.
In his remarks, Ododo said the inauguration went beyond unveiling a physical structure, describing it as a reaffirmation of the administration’s commitment to public accountability, openness and responsible governance.
He said his administration had, from inception, prioritised governance anchored on strong institutions, credible systems and transparent processes.
According to him, the Audit House is a world-class facility and the first of its kind in Nigeria, purpose-built to accommodate the Office of the State Auditor-General and the Office of the Auditor-General for Local Governments within one professionally designed complex.
“The project was conceived and initiated under the leadership of my predecessor, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello.
“It reflects an understanding that sustainable development is driven not only by policies, but by enduring institutions that outlive administrations,” Ododo said.
He said his administration was pleased to complete the project for the benefit of the state, noting that the investment underscored a deliberate effort to strengthen audit institutions at the sub-national level.
“This is a deliberate statement of our belief in providing audit institutions with the administrative environment required to function independently, efficiently and professionally,” he said.
Ododo said the facility would enhance operational efficiency, promote inter-audit collaboration, improve record management and support digital transition, while also providing training and conference facilities.
According to him, the project will ultimately strengthen the credibility of public financial oversight in Kogi.
“By investing in audit infrastructure, we are investing in fiscal discipline, service delivery and public trust.
“Accountability is not abstract; it is built through systems, people and infrastructure. When audit institutions are strong, governance is strengthened,” he said.
Ododo added that effective oversight boosts public confidence and makes development sustainable, describing this as the governance pathway deliberately chosen for the state.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and commitment to strengthening governance systems nationwide.
He noted that ongoing reforms in public finance management and institutional accountability had enabled states to execute transparency-driven projects.
“We remain fully aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda and deeply appreciate the support extended to sub-national governments,” Ododo said.
The governor thanked Ibori for honouring the invitation and performing the official commissioning of the Kogi State Audit House. NAN
