The Federal and Plateau Government have been urged to do something drastic following the critical point the Insecurity in the state had reached with terrorist attacks and violence claiming innocent lives on daily basis.
Da Gyang Dudu-Dalyop, National President of Berom Educational and Cultural Organization (BECO) Worldwide, has sounded the alarm, calling for urgent deployment of troops to combat terrorist hideouts and protect civilians.
In an exclusive interview, Dalyop lamented that the security crisis in Plateau State has lasted for over 26 years, with intense and sustained terror attacks on villages and communities.
He highlighted no-go areas, including Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Mangu, Bokkos, Jos South, and Bassa, where terrorists have made hills and forests their hideouts.
The BECO President expressed disappointment that despite the deployment of 300 specialized troops, the security situation remains precarious, with attacks continuing in various parts of the state.
He called for a balanced concentration of security forces, emphasizing that the current deployment is insufficient.
Dalyop condemned the politicization of security, citing a House of Representatives member’s claim of facilitating the deployment of troops as “dangerous” and “divisive”.
He urged Plateau State representatives to work together to address the crisis holistically more so that “We’re living on borrowed time”
The BECO President questioned the government’s strategy and resources deployed to address the crisis, highlighting the lack of visible impact on the ground. He expressed concern that communities are being left to devise their own survival mechanisms, which could lead to anarchy.
Dalyop called for the release of arms seized by the DSS to Operation Rainbow personnel, emphasizing that sending troops without adequate arms is tantamount to sending them to their death. He applauded the recent promise of recruiting 1,000 Plateau youths into the forest guard and road construction, but emphasized that implementation is key.
The attempt to switch the narrative, portraying victims as aggressors and aggressors as victims, is “dangerous”, Dalyop warned. He urged the President to take decisive action to address the crisis, emphasizing that the Constitution guarantees the right to life and no group should be allowed to terrorize others with impunity.
Dalyop concluded by calling on the President to exercise his authority to act against anyone threatening the survival of Nigeria. The people of Plateau State are living in fear, and it is time for the government to take concrete action to address the security crisis.
The security situation in Plateau State requires immediate attention, and all stakeholders must work together to address the crisis. The people deserve to live in peace and safety, and it is the responsibility of the government to ensure their protection.
