The National Police Council on Monday confirmed Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police.
In a statement signed by the Council, in Abuja, said Disu’s appointment by President Bola Tinubu has formally been ratified as Nigeria’s 23rd police chief.
The statement said that the decision was taken on Monday at a meeting of the Council held at the State House in Abuja and chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The session was attended by several state governors and senior government officials.
“In accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Police Act, his appointment required confirmation by the National Police Council before he could assume office on a substantive basis, ”
the statement stated.
Disu had earlier been appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police on Feb. 24 following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun.
Formal Transition in Police Leadership
With the Council’s endorsement, Disu now formally takes charge of the Nigeria Police Force at a time when the country continues to grapple with complex security challenges.
A seasoned officer with decades of operational and administrative experience, Disu previously served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
He also held the position of Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Special Protection Unit (SPU). (ephemeralnews.com.ng)
