The Plateau Government has organised a maiden science and technology festival to showcase novel ideas and recent innovations in the sector.
The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Cletus Shurkuk, who made the disclosure in a statement on Friday in Jos, said that the Plateau State Science and Technology Innovation Festival (PLASSTIFEST) was slated for June 1 to June 3.
Shurkuk stated that the event would unite multiple sectors, showcase creativity, and connect innovators with investors.
The commissioner noted that Plateau faces challenges in education, agriculture, mining, unemployment, and infrastructure, adding that some solutions would be proffered during the festivals.
He said the state is blessed with rich resources and a vibrant youth population capable of harnessing the state’s rich potential.
Shurkuk pointed out that the festival theme “Reimagining Plateau: Driving Innovation for a Smarter and Sustainable Future” aligns with Gov. Caleb Mutfwang’s mantra: “The time is now.”
The commissioner explained that the festival would build a databank of innovations for easy reference and provide homegrown solutions to global challenges.
He said the top three innovators would receive awards, adding that investors would attend to explore profitable opportunities.
Shurkuk disclosed that the Minister of Innovation, Fr Kingsley Udeh, would deliver a keynote address during the event.
Other activities include exhibitions, panel talks, innovation awards, and investor networking sessions.
The commissioner said year-long mentorship and community outreach would follow the three-day event.
He encouraged youth participation, noting that government is keen on empowering youths to solve local problems.
Shurkuk said the festival aligned with the Federal Government’s efforts to commercialise Nigerian research findings.
Students, farmers, startups, and investors are urged to participate in the movement, he added. NAN
