The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu inaugurated the remodeled 72 Special Forces Battalion headquarters and commended the unit’s leadership for enhancing troops’ welfare, morale and operational efficiency.
Shaibu said on Friday in Makurdi during the inauguration that the project executed under the Commanding Officer, Special Forces Battalion Makurdi, Lt.-Col. Sunday Agwom, reflected vision, innovation and prudent utilisation of available resources.
The COAS, who was represented by the Force Commander Operation Whirl Stroke, Maj.-Gen Moses Gara, described the facility as a demonstration of purposeful leadership aimed at improving the standard of living and working conditions of personnel.
According to him, a well-structured and conducive environment is essential for boosting the morale, discipline and efficiency of troops.
He said the remodelled complex would enhance the image of the battalion while strengthening its operational effectiveness.
“The facility will serve as a source of pride and motivation to officers and soldiers alike.
“It will also project the image of professionalism, orderliness and readiness, which are the hallmarks of the Nigerian Army,” he said.
Shaibu commended Agwom for demonstrating that leadership was not only about command but also about improving personnel welfare and the outlook of the institution.
He urged officers and soldiers of the battalion to safeguard and make judicious use of the facility.
“The true value of any project lies not only in its construction but also in its maintenance and sustainability.
“Let this project stand as a testimony to what can be achieved when discipline and teamwork are applied in our daily duties,” he said.
The COAS assured personnel of his continued support for similar developmental initiatives across units of the Nigerian Army.
He reaffirmed the army’s commitment to building a professional, resourceful and combat-ready force capable of defending the nation’s territorial integrity.
Earlier, the Commanding Officer, 72 Special Forces Battalion, Lt .-Col. Sunday Agwom said the project was funded through the COAS Intervention Fund.
Agwom said the project reflected the army leadership’s commitment to troop welfare, infrastructure development and operational effectiveness.
He explained that the renovation involved structural rehabilitation, replacement of defective roofing and a complete facelift of the headquarters.
He also said that it would provide a more conducive environment for administration and command activities, while noting that refurbishment of office furniture and other utility facilities would be undertaken later.
The commanding officer expressed gratitude to the COAS for his leadership and support, as well as to the Commander, 401 Special Forces Brigade, for his guidance. (NAN
