The Rotary club of Calgary North and Jos Central, has empowered over 20, 000 youths in Kwall and Rotsu communities in Bassa Local Government Areas (LGAs) with two Compressed Earth Bricks making machines.

The President of Rotary club of Jos Central, Mrs Vivian Abara, on Wednesday Kwall, said the gesture through its Rebuilding Lives Project, was to empower youths in those communities that had experienced conflicts with the machines that could enable them rebuild their homes.

Abara, said that the vulnerable persons in the communities were only to bring the needed resources for making the bricks and they wouldn’t be charged for labour.

The club’s president further said that the machines would also be used by the youths to generate income from the proceeds gotten from the sales of the compressed bricks.

She said that Rotary had trained some of the youths, who would in turn train others on how to make the bricks.

According to her, the trained youths in the two communities had created two cooperative societies in which Rotary had paid the sum of N900,000 into each of the cooperative accounts to enable the youths purchase the materials needed for making the compressed earth bricks.

Abara called on the two communities to make the best use of the machines for the sole purpose in which it was given.

Mr Wakili Tongwe, Community Leader of Kwall, commended the Rotary club for its gesture, saying the act wouldn’t only help in the rebuilding of their community but also in empowering its youths.

Tongwe, assured the club that the machines would be used for the sole purpose in which it was provided for.
Similarly, the District Head of Rotsu,

Isaiah Ishenkie, thanked Rotary for the donation and further appealed to other kindhearted individuals and organisations to emulate rotary in reaching out to communities that had experienced conflicts. NAN
