The New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) says the African Democratic Congress (ADC) should keep their eyes open while dealing with its 2023 presidential candidate, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso to avoid betrayal of agreement.
This is contained in a statement on Saturday by the NNPP National Secretary, Mr Ogini Olaposi.
Olaposi stated that ‘if Kwankwaso could betray the founder of the NNPP, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, who gave him a free ticket to run in 2023, he will do more to the ADC.
“Kwankwaso is the reason that the NNPP had internal leadership crisis . He has no political weight again and could have been better off joining the APC with Gov. Abba Yusuf after his expulsion from the NNPP.
“Kwankwaso ended his political career when he decided to join the ADC rather than the APC.”
According to the party, the crowd that Kwankwaso brought to his defection ground should not be mistaken for political strength because politics in Northern Nigeria is totally different from what happens in the South.
“The relationship of Kwankwaso with the political elite and power brokers in the north shall determine the votes he can give to the ADC and he no longer has that political will and capacity.
“The governor and political elites will determine what happens in Kano state in 2027. From all indications, majority of the people will likely go for President Bola Tinubu.
“The likelihood of refusing to be running mate to an ADC candidate which he did with Peter Obi in 2023 will likely surface, leading to issues that may end ADC’s chances of participating in the 2027 presidential poll.”
Olaposi stated that some staunch followers of Kwankwaso are already disillusioned, realizing that they should have followed Gov. Ahmed Yusuf of Kano State to the APC or remain in the NNPP.
