Kogi Head of Service, Dr Elijah Evinemi, has commiserated with the authorities of the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL) over the accident that claimed the lives of five students of the institution.

In a statement issued issued in Lokoja and made available to newsmen on Tuesday, Evinemi described the incident as “horrific and mind-rendering.”

He also conveyed the institution’s sympathy to the parents of the deceased students and families of others that died in the accident.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had reported that an articulated vehicle carrying timber logs had lost control and veered off to the opposite lane, crushing a shuttle bus carrying the students, plus the driver and another passenger.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Mr Samuel Oyedeji, who revealed the details of the accident, attributed it to brake failure.

Oyedeji said that the accident took place around 3:40 p.m. on Monday.

The sector commander confirmed that both the driver of the bus and one other passenger were among the casualties. NAN
