In a move to uphold fundamental human rights and adhere to global best practices in policing, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reiterated the ban on the public parade of suspects by the Nigeria Police Force.
Egbetokun said that the directive, which prohibits the public parade of criminal suspects before formal charges are filed in a court of law, is a cornerstone of the Nigeria Police Force’s modernization efforts.
This policy, according to him, is aligned with international human rights standards, prioritizing the protection and preservation of dignity and rights throughout the judicial process ¹.
The IGP emphasized the importance of operating within the bounds of the law and promoting a culture of respect for human rights among police personnel.
He called for the understanding and cooperation of the public, particularly members of the media, in adhering to this directive.
