The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Benue Command, has paraded a teenage wife ( name withheld), who alleged murdered her three year old step son, Vanen Ikyowe.

The suspect, a 17 year old, was paraded over alleged offence of culpable homicide at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters, Makurdi on Wednesday.

The NSCDC State Commandant, Mrs Larai Bitrus, said that the suspect was arrested on Sept 12 at Ginde Village in Guma Local Government Area of Benue.

Bitrus said the command received a distress call from members of the public on Sept 12 that one Nguemo had murdered a three year old boy and dumped his corpse in a river in the area.

She said that men of the NSCDC stationed at Ginde Village swiftly moved to the scene and arrested the suspect who later confessed to the crimes during interrogation.

The commandant said that the suspect led NSCDC officers, who conducted a search and discovered the lifeless body of the boy and quickly deposited the corpse at a mortuary in Ginde Village.

Bitrus, who described the incident as very unfortunate and barbaric, said that the suspect would be handed over to the Nigerian Police Force for prosecution after investigations.

According to her, life was sacrosanct and that no one has the right to take another personā€™s life no matter the level of provocations.

Fielding questions from journalists, the suspect, who’s her husbandā€™s second wife, said she went to the bush with her step son to fetch firewoods when an evil spirit came upon her and she killed the boy. NAN
